In our 2006 trip to Yellowstone, we went to Wells and then North to Jackpot. It was hot when we left Reno at about 7:30, hotter by Winnemucca and HOT by Wells. Fortunately (as we did this year also) we had purchased water vests and scarfs and they got a real workout. We had to re-soak them and ourselves about every 60 minutes - plus/minus the nearest gas station. So our pre-planning and room reservations (Labor Day weekend - gotta have a place to sleep) for this trip was based on this experience.
We left Reno by 7:30am and fully expecting to stop in Lovelock to put on the water vests; nope all the way to West Wendover without putting them on. We did do frequenty water stops; but no need for the vests. We had some 30 MPH winds between Lovelock and Winnemucca which killed our gas mileage! We got into Wendover mid-afternoon and could have easily made it into Salt Lake City. But hey, we're on vacation, Montego Bay had a cancellation fee, and Catherine needs to re-coop from Reno casino play - not.
The quanity of food was the "old day casino days" too much food (without a doggie bag) for not a bad price. The dealers were less than friendly and the house "screwed" the games normal odds. The room was nice.
